REPORTS TO: Laboratory Manager
SUPERVISORY SKILLS: None
JOB DESCRIPTION: Responsible for performing venipuncture on outpatients. Maintaining supply inventory and providing supplies to physician offices.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
- Prepares equipment to efficiently collect client specimens.
- Maintains adequate supplies
- Performs venipuncture (in rare instances, arterial or capillary punctures) on clients.
- Accurately identifies and labels client specimens.
- Accurately enters data into the computer.
- Maintains a clean and uncluttered work area, following all OSHA safety, cleanliness and infection control procedures.
- Inventories supplies and fills orders for physician offices.
- Maintains client confidentiality at all times.
- Be able to demonstrate current competencies related to position.
REQUIREMENTS
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: ASCP certification preferred. MA certification acceptable.
EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one year work experience, preferably in health care.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Knowledge of Phlebotomy techniques.
- Knowledge of Laboratory protocols and policies.
SKILLS:
- Skilled in efficient and effective phlebotomy.
- Skilled in pleasant interaction with clients, staff and physician office personnel.
ABILITIES:
- Ability to work at all facilities.
- Ability to respond appropriately to instructions.
- Ability to work and communicate with all departments and personnel in a clear and concise manner.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS
- Must be able to walk to various settings.
- Must be able to bend and reach.
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs of supplies and equipment.
- Must be able to assist clients when needed.
- Occasional stress in dealing with priorities.
ENVIRONMENTAL/WORK CONDITIONS:
- May work in more than one outpatient setting.
- May be exposed to communicable disease, sharps, body fluids and cleaning chemicals.
