Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields to scan specific parts of the body, providing detailed images of organs or other tissue so your physician can prescribe a possible course of treatment. MRI scans may be recommended because other types of x-rays or CT scans will not provide the level of detail your physician needs for a diagnosis.
When you schedule your appointment, you will be given any special instructions that you may need to follow for your testing procedure. You may be required to have an injection of contrast, and if so you will be asked to have blood work done prior to the scan. You may also be asked to change into a gown. All of your personal belongings will be locked in a locker during your test. Please bring your current medical insurance card, photo ID, order for the test, and any copay or coinsurance you may owe.
